Consultant Palliative Medicine, Edinburgh Cancer Centre and Western General Hospital Edinburgh.
Deirdra has been a Consultant in Palliative Medicine since 2009, and currently works for NHS Lothian in the WGH Hospital Palliative Care team, which includes the Edinburgh Cancer Centre.
After training in General Practice and working in Palliative care in Edinburgh and Lanarkshire she went on to complete Specialist Palliative Medicine training, gaining her CCT in 2009. She has experience of working across hospice, community and hospital settings across the West of Scotland, Lanarkshire, Forth Valley and more recently Lothian.
From early in her career Deirdra developed an interest in developing services in palliative care for non malignant conditions particularly COPD which included models of multidisciplinary outpatient working. Her research has included patients preferences for end of life care and ACP.
Deirdra has a keen interest in medical education/ mentoring and coaching. She completed her medical education qualifications in her early training and continues to teach regularly including joint programme of teaching with MOE colleagues. She is a clinical supervisor and is completing the SE Clinical Educator Programme. She has represented Acute Palliative medicine on the Lothian MCN.
